Let’s talk about what ‘Alabama by Morning’ means. I was born, in southern Alabama, early on a frosty morn, while Reagan was sleeping in 1600.
To me, Alabama has always been more than just a place where exceptional college football and 90% humidity are regular facts of life. It’s my root. My beginning. I live in Tennessee now, and it’s as much home to me as any place has ever been. But Alabama is in my heart. Forever. I’m always trying to get back to Alabama. Sure, it’d be great to get back there physically one day to put down roots. But more than that, what I’m after, always, is that sense of magic. That mysterious sense of place that Roy Blount, Jr. remarks that all southerners have. Back to what made me.
This is not a __________ blog. I write about whatever in the world is going on. Categorize that one however you want. Good luck, Google robots.
*If for some unholy reason you didn’t pick up on it, Alabama by Morning is a nod to a song by King George himself. If you don’t know, now you know.
